Welcome to Provo, Utah.

Provo is a city in Utah and the county seat of Utah County, located about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City along the Wasatch Front. It lies between the cities of Orem to the north and Springville to the south. It is perhaps best-known as home of Brigham Young University.

Settled in 1849 by 33 families from Salt Lake City, Provo has grown to a population of 105,166 as of the 2000 Census, making it the third-largest city in the state. The site was named Fort Utah by the Mormon settlers, but re-named Provo in 1850 for Etienne Provost, an early French-Canadian trapper who arrived in the region in 1825.

Brigham Young University, often referred to as BYU, is the flagship university of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The vast majority of students at BYU are LDS and as a condition of admission to the university they commit to obey a stringent honor code while they attend BYU. BYU is often known for its low tuition costs, especially for a private university of its size. [1] A large number of its students have some proficiency in a foreign language. BYU is located in Provo, Utah, approximately 50 miles to the south of Salt Lake City.

Provo is home to the LDS Church's largest Missionary Training Center (MTC). Each week some 475 LDS missionaries enter for approximately 9 weeks of training before they depart for the mission field; becoming part of over 60,000 in more than 120 countries. Presently, about 1,100 instructors (many returned missionaries) teach 62 languages. The center in Provo began construction in July 1974 and completed in July 1976. The MTC was expanded in the early 1990s, becoming the largest of 15 such centers in the world.

Brigham Young University Arboretum, also known as Harrison Arboretum, is an arboretum located at 800 North Street on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, USA. It includes native plants from both eastern and western regions of the United States.

Trails are a big part of the Provo Parks system. Take the opportunity to hike or bike along the Provo-Jordan River Parkway Trail, Bonneville Shoreline Trail, College Connector Trail, Rock Canyon Trail, Slide Canyon Trail, Slate Canyon Trail, Indian Road Trail, and Utah Lake Trail.

The mountains surrounding Provo provide good hiking, mountain biking and fishing opportunities among beautiful alpine scenery. In winter there is downhill and cross-country skiing at Sundance Ski Resort, owned by Robert Redford. Also near town is the Mt. Timpanogos Cave National Monument and Bridal Veil Falls.

Animal - Neon Trees

Neon Trees are a combination of slick pop hooks and sturdy organic rock, both melodic and hard-hitting, their anthems of adolescent angst, longing, love lost and found, delivered with the kind of heart-on-the-sleeve passion that only comes from hard work and commitment.
